Grayscale Homes Opens Design Studio &
Boutique in Montclair
Montclair, NJ — Tiffany Acosta, founder and owner of Grayscale Homes, has officially opened her first combined interior design studio and retail boutique in the heart of Montclair. The new space, set within a 1909 Art Deco building, celebrates history and craftsmanship with original oak flooring, soaring 12-foot tin ceilings, and a timeless sense of character.
For Acosta, this moment represents a milestone in both her personal and professional journey. After four years of running her growing design firm remotely, she found herself yearning for a more inspiring environment.
“I needed a new environment, a space where I could truly dive into the work,” she shares. “With the scale of projects we were taking on, having a dedicated studio wasn’t just nice to have — it was necessary.”
The discovery of the historic building happened serendipitously during one of her Sunday walks.
“It stopped me in my tracks ... By the end of that week, I’d signed the lease. It was an immediate yes. The place had the kind of historical character and quirks I love — details you almost never find in new builds.”
The 700-square-foot space is designed to serve a dual purpose: the front of the boutique invites visitors to explore thoughtfully curated collections of barware, textiles, home décor, furniture, and artisan accents from brands including Four Hands, Surya, Foreside Home & Garden, and HomArt, while the rear functions as a creative hub for design work.
In many ways, this marks a return to Grayscale Homes’ origins. Acosta first launched her business as an online shop offering small home goods and textiles before evolving into the full-service interior design firm it is today. The boutique-studio combination is both a nod to those roots and a step forward in establishing Grayscale Homes as a central destination for design in Montclair.
The interiors reflect Acosta’s signature style: semi-sheer drapery framing a marble table by Four Hands, a sculptural sofa, and lime-washed wall-mounted open shelving set the tone for the boutique. Beyond the retail floor, the open-concept conference space hosts client meetings and creative sessions, complemented by a chic kitchenette and a materials library anchored by a bold Anthropologie mural. “Some days I’m managing client meetings, presenting designs, sourcing materials, and running the shop all in the same afternoon — but I love being part of the community,” Acosta says. “If someone presses their face against the glass, I wave them inside.” With its blend of retail offerings and an elevated design studio, the new space embodies both the creative spirit and luxurious sensibility that Grayscale Homes brings to every project — and warmly invites the community to step inside.
