A historic Montville home meets a modern point of view—see how we honored over a century of craftsmanship while giving this project new life.
Imagine stepping into a 1911 home lovingly built by the homeowner’s great-great-great-grandfather—every inch a reflection of legacy. This grand Montville living room was already rich in history, with its original coffered ceilings, wood-paneled walls, and storied stone fireplace. Our role was to breathe new life into it without losing its soul.
Let’s Talk Details
We began with a pair of olive green sofas—sculptural in form, contemporary in spirit, but deeply connected to the home’s palette. Their tone harmonized effortlessly with the existing millwork, creating a bridge between old and new. From there, we layered in modern textures, timeless silhouettes, and subtle brass details that nodded to the past while looking forward.
Rather than erasing the home’s character, we celebrated it—curating a space where historical elements shine alongside curated comfort. Look closely and you’ll spot pieces and preserved details that have stood for generations, reminding us that good design doesn’t just make a room feel better—it makes it feel known.
The Timeless Montville Dining Room
I still remember when I walked into our client’s historical home. A home that has been in their family since 1911! I’m not sure the exact moment I realized this would be a big deal for Grayscale Homes – maybe somewhere in between the day we toured the property (in all its original glory) and when my client showcased pictures of her great great great grandfather building it on horse and buggy. I knew this would not only be a pivotal point for my firm but also for me!
